Dr Alison Porter is an Associate Professor at the University of Southampton, specializing in foreign language (FL) education. She focuses on FL literacy development in primary and secondary schools, cross-linguistic influence in early learning, and evidence-based pedagogies. Her work emphasizes teacher professional development, particularly through technology-enhanced methods.
Alison holds a PhD in Modern Languages and an MA in Applied Linguistics from the University of Southampton. She has extensive experience as an English and French language teacher in the UK and Australia, including a decade as a primary school specialist.
Her research projects include the DELTEA initiative (ESRC-funded) and collaborations with institutions like the SUPL Research and Practice Partnership. She has been awarded the De Gruyter Best Paper Award (2013) and currently supervises multiple PhD students in applied linguistics and modern languages.
