Her research focuses on liberal imperial governance, nationalism, and the transnational history of ideas within the British Empire. Hight holds a Ph.D. in History from Rutgers University (2024), an M.A. from Virginia Tech (2014), and a B.A. in History & Classical Studies from Virginia Tech (2012). Her current project, Instituting Nation and Empire in the Modern British World, examines how British institutions like universities, parliaments, and the monarchy shaped imperial identity and racial hierarchies.
Her research has been supported by numerous awards, including the University and Louis Bevier Fellowship (2023–24), the Larkin Research Fellowship (2022), and the Global Wales Fulbright Award (2020). Her work bridges global and comparative history, emphasizing the interconnectedness of British imperial institutions and their contested legacies.
Hight’s recent presentations include discussions on constitutional crises in Jamaica, the four-nations politics of Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee, and the symbolic role of universities in British imperial strategy. She actively engages with transnational frameworks to explore how imperial governance both unified and fractured cultural and political identities.
