Alison Harvey is a Teaching and Scholarship (T&S) Lecturer in the Department of Materials at the University of Manchester, within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Her roles include Year 2 Programme Manager and Teaching and Learning Enhancement Lead, focusing on inclusive teaching practices. She holds a PhD in Materials Science from the University of Manchester (2010) and a Master of Engineering in Biomedical Materials Science (2005). Alison specializes in interdisciplinary STEM education, active learning strategies, and embedding Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) into curricula. Her work includes developing modules like the RRI unit for the EPSRC-funded Advanced Biomedical Materials CDT and leading outreach initiatives.

Research interests center on pedagogical innovation, RRI frameworks, and inclusive teaching. She pioneered the RRI unit addressing societal implications of science through the EPSRC AREA framework. Her outreach activities include collaborations with museums and art galleries to engage diverse audiences in biomedical materials science.
Recent publications explore pedagogical approaches to RRI in STEM, design of medical implants, and active learning strategies. She received a 2022 Teaching Excellence Award for her contributions. Alison also serves as Academic Lead for the New Academics Programme, supporting faculty development.
