Tyler Harvey, Ph.D., is a Lecturer in the Department of Bioengineering at Clemson University's College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences. He teaches undergraduate bioengineering courses with emphasis on capstone design, bioinstrumentation, and sports engineering. His office is located in 313 Rhodes Engineering Research Center.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Bioengineering, Clemson University (2018)
- Certificate in Engineering and Science Education, Clemson University (2018)
- M.S. in Bioengineering, Clemson University (2016)
- B.S. in Bioengineering (Bioelectrical), Clemson University (2014)
Research Focus: Dr. Harvey specializes in innovative pedagogical methods for engineering education, including alternative grading and discovery learning frameworks. His biomedical research spans sports biomechanics, computational modeling of living systems, and scanning probe microscopy applications. He develops educational tools like CellSpark electrophysiology simulator to enhance STEM learning experiences.
Publication Trends: Recent works demonstrate dual focus on education research (engineering identity development, instructional tools) and biomedical applications (prosthetic design, cancer therapy, diagnostic devices). Articles frequently incorporate computational modeling and emphasize practical educational implementations.
Outreach & Leadership: As Faculty Fellow at the Robert H. Brooks Sports Science Institute, he directs outreach programs including NIH-funded ESTEEMED Scholars and SCGSSM GoSciTech camps. He mentors award-winning student teams in national competitions and advises the Clemson Biomedical Applications Club.
