Alison Briggs is an Honorary Research Associate in the Department of Geography at The University of Manchester. Her research focuses on food insecurity through a relational lens, employing feminist methodologies and ethnographic approaches. Funded by the ESRC, her work explores how social and intimate relationships are reconfigured in contexts of food insecurity, bridging personal and organizational/community-level understandings. Prior to academia, she worked for 14 years as an Early Years Practitioner with Stoke City Council and Staffordshire County Council. Briggs holds a BA (First Class) in Sociology from Staffordshire University (2017) and an MSc in Sociological Research from The University of Manchester (2018).
She is affiliated with the Morgan Centre for Research into Everyday Lives and the Cities, Politics, Economies Research Group. Her expertise includes feminist geographies, qualitative research methods, and the study of austerity's impact on communities. In 2024, she co-recipient of the Making a Difference Awards for her contributions to third-sector research and policy.
Her publications address topics such as austerity-driven crises, childcare innovations, and methodological advancements in social sciences. She has contributed to media discussions on food insecurity and housing affordability, including features in Stylist Magazine and academic blogs.
