Elizabeth Ackerley is a Research Fellow at the University of Manchester, affiliated with the Morgan Centre for Research into Everyday Lives, Cities, Politics, Economies Research Group, and Manchester Urban Institute Feminist Collective. Her current role involves leading fieldwork in Sardinia for the Austerity and Altered Life-Courses project, exploring socio-political impacts of austerity on young people across Europe.
Education: PhD in Sociology (2022, University of Manchester), MSc Sociological Research (2018), BA French and Italian (2014, University of Exeter). She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2017).
Research focuses on youth activism, socio-economic austerity, participatory methods, and policy impacts on families/employment/housing. Projects include collaborations with RECLAIM (UK), Università degli Studi di Cagliari (Italy), and Associazione TDM 2000 ODV. Awards include the 2024 Making a Difference Awards and 2023 NCRM Impact Prize (Runners-up).
Her work emphasizes ethical youth engagement in research, particularly around sexual violence and socio-economic disparities. She has contributed to policy discussions through participatory methodologies and interdisciplinary collaboration.
