Ed Kiely is part of the Academic staff in the Department of Geography at the University of Cambridge. His research focuses on critical health geography, examining the intersections of austerity policies, mental health care, and social theory. He holds an MA (Cantab) in Social and Political Sciences (2010) and an MPhil in Geographical Research (2018), both from the University of Cambridge, and is currently completing a PhD exploring austerity's impact on mental health service regulation in Britain.
His work integrates feminist ethics and participatory methods, emphasizing the experiential realities of austerity's effects on marginalized groups. Kiely has received multiple grants and awards, including the ESRC 1+3 Studentship and the William Vaughan Lewis Fund. He actively engages in academic outreach, convening conferences on mental health and austerity, and has contributed to peer-reviewed journals like Transactions of the Institute of British Geographers and Critical Social Policy.
Teaching responsibilities include supervisions in Political Appetites, Geographies of Hazards, and Part II dissertations. Kiely also leads external initiatives such as Black in Geography and the Graduate Wellbeing Programme, reflecting his commitment to equity in academia.
