Alison Ann Bertuch, M.D., Ph.D., is a Professor at Baylor College of Medicine, holding dual roles in the Pediatrics-Oncology and Molecular and Human Genetics departments. She is also a member of the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center. Her research focuses on telomere biology disorders, including mechanisms of telomere maintenance and DNA repair in yeast and human cells. Dr. Bertuch received her BS from MIT (1985), MD and PhD from the University of Rochester (1993), and completed her residency and fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine. She has been recognized with awards such as the American Society for Clinical Investigation (2014) and the Baylor College of Medicine Research Mentorship Award (2012).
Her work spans clinical and basic research, addressing the genetic and molecular underpinnings of telomere-related diseases. Key areas of study include dyskeratosis congenita, telomerase dysfunction, and the role of telomeres in cancer and vascular pathologies. She collaborates with teams at Texas Children's Cancer Center and has contributed to translational research in pediatric hematology/oncology.
Dr. Bertuch’s publications highlight advancements in understanding telomere dynamics, genetic variants, and therapies for bone marrow failure syndromes. She actively participates in professional organizations, including the American Society of Hematology and the North American Pediatric Aplastic Anemia Consortium. Her research also extends to clinical trials for hematologic malignancies and genetic disorders.
