Professor Aline Hémond is an Americanist anthropologist at the University of Picardy-Jules Verne specializing in Nahua societies of Mexico. Her research spans three primary fields: anthropology of art (1988-present), political anthropology (1998-2008), and anthropology of ritual (2008-2014), with a cross-cutting focus on environmental struggles and ethnotheories of nature. Since 2014, she has investigated indigenous artistic mobility between Mexico and the U.S., examining how globalization legitimizes activist actions through heritage dynamics.
Research Trajectory:
- Anthropology of Art: Explores tradition, creativity, and identity in indigenous plastic productions
- Political Anthropology: Analyzes local power structures and electoral democracy
- Ritual Studies: Investigates agrarian rituals and autochthony
- Environmental Anthropology: Examines ecological struggles and indigenous knowledge systems
She contributes to the ANR Fabriq'AM project (2013-present) studying heritage construction in Indigenous America. Her publications include analyses of Mexican murals, political assemblies, and ritual foods, with fieldwork spanning Mexico, Guatemala, and U.S. cities like Chicago and New York.
