Christophe Baticle

Christophe Baticle is a socio-anthropologist and Lecturer at Aix-Marseille University, where he is affiliated with the Population, Environment, Society laboratory (LPED, UMR 151 AMU-IRD). He also maintains associations with the Habiter le Monde research team at the University of Picardie Jules Verne. With academic training spanning sociology, anthropology, political science, demography, and economics, Baticle brings an interdisciplinary perspective to his research on environmental practices, indigenous communities, and spatial relationships.

His research focuses on three interconnected domains: (1) Central African hunter-gatherer societies, particularly examining hunting practices as political expressions of autochthony and resistance strategies; (2) Palestinian refugee experiences, analyzing themes of exile, confinement, and cultural resistance; and (3) French rural practices, including traditional hunting methods like 'tendelles' in the Grands Causses region. Baticle's work consistently bridges local practices with global processes, revealing how environmental policies, legal frameworks, and cultural traditions intersect in complex ways.
