Dr. Alim Abubakre is a Senior Lecturer in International Business at Sheffield Business School (AACSB-accredited), part of the College of Business, Technology and Engineering at Sheffield Hallam University. He serves on the advisory board of the London Business School Africa Club and chairs These Executive Minds (TEXEM), an organization he founded that has trained over 4,000 executives globally. Previously, he was a visiting lecturer at the University of Southampton and Nottingham Business School before becoming a full-time academic. He holds a PhD in CSR and Strategy from the University of Southampton.
His research focuses on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) issues in oil and gas, ethical finance, and manufacturing sectors. Conceptually, he explores Stakeholder Theory, Impression Management, and Corporate Social (Ir)Responsibility. He has published in ABS3 journals and presented at conferences like the British Academy of Management and the Academy of Management. He also reviews academic works and mentors early-career academics transitioning to academia.
Dr. Abubakre has supervised over 40 postgraduate and 50 undergraduate students to completion. He served as Associate Director of the MA Leadership and Management course, forging partnerships (e.g., Cadbury) and leading successful curriculum reviews. He has been an external doctoral examiner at UNICAF and contributed to PhD review panels at Coventry University.
Professionally, he led a £3 billion Public-Private Partnership project in West Africa, the largest such initiative there as of 2007. As an entrepreneur, he co-founded Texem, collaborating with top institutions like the University of Oxford and multinational firms such as Unilever and Microsoft to develop executive education programs. His consulting work includes advising Russell Group universities on internationalization strategies and contributing to World Bank projects.
He holds certifications including Senior Fellow of the Advance HE and Fellow of the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs. His work emphasizes leveraging diaspora networks, vertical integration of industries, and national branding for sustainable development, as highlighted in his public commentary on Nigeria’s economic challenges.
