Alicia Berry

Alicia Berry is an Instructor in the Department of Early, Elementary, and Reading Education (EERE) at James Madison University's College of Education. She transitioned to academia after a decade in K-12 education, holding roles such as middle school teacher, Instructional Coach, and Reading Specialist at Skyline Middle School. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes fostering strong student-teacher relationships to enhance literacy development among diverse learners.

Berry joined JMU as an adjunct instructor in 2016 and transitioned to a full-time role, focusing on preparing future educators through courses like Reading Instruction and Assessment for Diverse Learners and Disciplinary Literacy for Diverse Classrooms. Her current research and pedagogical interests center on building teacher agency and effective literacy strategies for PK-6 education.
