Dr. Ali Rostron is a Lecturer in the Management School, where he joined in 2017 as part of the DBA programme team. Previously, he taught Organisational Behaviour and HRM at the University of Chester. His career transitioned from 15 years in charities and local government (including 12 years as a manager) to academia. He holds a PhD and MBA, both informed by his managerial experiences. Currently, he directs the online MSc in International Human Resource Management and supervises DBA candidates.
Research interests include identity, narrative, autoethnography, and public management paradoxes. He explores how managers construct identity through narratives, the role of stories in organizations, and organizational responses to conflicting institutional logics. His work emphasizes reflexive methodologies and the integration of researcher identity into qualitative inquiry.
Awards include the Best Development Paper (2016) and Best Full Paper (2014) in the British Academy of Management’s Identity Track. Professional activities include roles on the British Academy of Management’s Identity SIG committee and as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
