Ali Kaveh is a sessional instructor in the Department of Sociology at the University of British Columbia (UBC), part of the Faculty of Arts. He specializes in teaching undergraduate courses on social theories, research methodologies, gender sociology, migration, ethnicity, and religion since 2010. Prior to this, he taught language, literature, and philosophy between 2004–2006 and worked in quality assurance in higher education, leading the Center of Excellence in Quality Assurance.
His research focuses on migration and identity, particularly the identity construction of Afghan 1.5/second-generation immigrants in Canada, emphasizing language, religiosity, and belonging. He also investigates mental health among post-2021 Afghan refugees displaced by the Taliban takeover, collaborating with the University of East London's School of Psychology.
