Dr. Hamid Akbary is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Lethbridge. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Calgary (2022), an M.A. in Sociology from Lehigh University (2015), and a B.A. in English from Kabul University (2010). His academic journey includes a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Calgary (2022-2023) and professional experience as a sessional instructor and analyst for Statistics Canada.

Research Interests: Dr. Akbary specializes in intersections of migration, gender, and race/ethnicity, with a focus on Muslim minorities and masculinities. His work combines qualitative and quantitative methods to address gender identity, cultural adaptation, and equity initiatives.
Publications & Contributions: Recent works examine immigrant women's labor market experiences, gender identity challenges among Afghan Muslim men in Canada, and violence prevention strategies. His research also includes institutional grant program analyses.
Honors: Recipient of the SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship and U.S. government-sponsored Fulbright Scholarship.
Professional Background: Previously worked with the United Nations in Afghanistan and on large-scale projects promoting gender and ethnic equality. Currently developing a book manuscript on Afghan Muslims in Canada.
