معرفی
Alexis Stranahan is an Associate Professor at Augusta University's Medical College of Georgia, with academic appointments in the Departments of Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine, Physiology, and Cellular Biology and Anatomy. She joined MCG in 2011 and leads NIH-funded research investigating neurobiological mechanisms underlying dementia vulnerability in obesity models.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Princeton University (2008)
- M.A. in Psychology (General), Princeton University (2006)
Her research spans neuroinflammation, neurodegenerative diseases, and metabolic regulation of brain function. Recent work focuses on neuroimmune signaling in obesity and aging, microglial targeting techniques, and adipose-brain interactions.
Publications reveal trends in neurobiology, obesity-related cognitive decline, and innovative methodologies for studying neuroinflammation. Key contributions include exploring BDNF's role in hibernation mechanisms and novel drug delivery systems for microglial modulation.
Scientific Awards & Honors:
- High Five My Faculty Award for Undergraduate Research Mentorship (2024)
- Medical College of Georgia Woman Who Inspires (2023)
- Gordon Research Conference Travel Award (2014)
- Young Investigator Award (2013)
- Keystone Symposia Early Career Investigator Travel Award (2012)
Dr. Stranahan serves on multiple faculty search committees and department chair selection panels across Augusta University. She holds editorial roles at Journal of Neuroinflammation and Journal of Neuroscience, and contributes to public science outreach through Brain Awareness Week lectures.
