Seungwoo Kang is an Assistant Professor at Augusta University's Medical College of Georgia in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology. His research focuses on neurobiological mechanisms of addiction, specifically examining tripartite synapses and long-range brain circuits related to substance dependence.
- PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology from University of California-Irvine (2014)
- MS in Neurobiology from Korea University (2008)
- BS in Life Sciences from Korea University (2005)
Kang's research combines biochemical, electrophysiological, and behavioral assays with real-time brain recording and computational analysis to study age-dependent neuropharmacological bases of addiction-related pathologies. His work seeks to identify brain-wide signatures predicting disease risk.
Recent articles focus on astrocyte-neuron interactions in striatal circuits, M-channel regulation during alcohol withdrawal, and computational neuroscience approaches to addiction. Key themes include reward-seeking behavior, neural plasticity, and neurochemical mechanisms of substance dependence.
