Alexia de León serves as Assistant Professor and Co-Director of the Professional Mental Health Counseling-Addictions Specialization program at Lewis & Clark College, while directing the institution's Latino Problem Gambling Services. Her clinical work focuses on culturally responsive treatment for adolescents, families, and college athletes struggling with substance abuse and mental health concerns.
Her research examines cross-cultural supervision for Latina supervisors, integration of contemplative practices like mindfulness meditation into social justice education, and the intersection of communities of color with addictions counseling. She implements the anti-oppressive Sentipensante pedagogy to liberate students from past oppression through embodied learning.
Dr. de León's scholarly work demonstrates consistent focus on culturally responsive counselor training methodologies and innovative approaches to addictions education through collaborative research frameworks.

As a first-generation college graduate, she actively mentors students and new professionals through service learning projects and anti-oppressive frameworks, with particular dedication to breaking systemic barriers for marginalized communities. She leads the Latino Problem Gambling Services team, providing specialized clinical supervision and direct support for problem gamblers and their families within Portland's Latino communities.
