Alexia Kulwiec is an Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School for Workers, where she teaches Labor Law at the University of Wisconsin Law School and offers courses on labor and employment law. She holds a JD from Chicago-Kent College of Law, an LLM from the University of Arkansas, and a BA in Economics. Previously, she served as Chief Counsel to SEIU Local 1 and Associate General Counsel at IUOE Local 150 before joining UW-Madison in 2014. Her research focuses on agricultural labor standards, worker health and safety, and labor policy reforms. She leads projects like the Wisconsin Dairy Farmworker Community Needs Assessment (2023) and the Voices of Wisconsin Workers study (2021), analyzing essential workers’ experiences during the pandemic. She also contributes to federal rulemaking comments and amicus briefs before the NLRB.

Her research interests bridge labor law with food systems, agricultural policy, and worker advocacy. She examines issues like wage and hour claims, union organizing, and workplace immigration challenges. Current projects include developing worker health councils and training programs for vulnerable workers in partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.
Key publications include analyses of agricultural worker protections, collective bargaining dynamics, and legal frameworks for poultry growers. She has authored guides like Employee and Union Member Guide to Labor Law (2021) and co-edited The Developing Labor Law (2021).
Grants and collaborations involve USDA SARE grants for farmworker training, NIOSH-funded pandemic response initiatives, and partnerships with Legal Action Wisconsin. She customizes labor education programs for unions and advocacy groups, emphasizing practical legal strategies for organizing campaigns and contract negotiations.
