Dr. Alexandros Petalas is an Assistant Professor of Offshore Geotechnics in the Department of Engineering at Durham University. He holds an MEng in Mining from the Technical University of Athens (2009), an MSc in Geomechanics from TU Delft (2012), and a PhD from UC Davis (2018). His research focuses on soil and metal plasticity under cyclic loading, numerical geotechnical analysis, soil-atmosphere interaction, and non-destructive testing using XRCT. He has held postdoctoral roles at Chalmers University and Imperial College, and previously worked at Plaxis BV.
