Alexandra Tunstall is a Professor of Art History at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), holding the position since 2018. She previously served as an Adjunct Professor at SCAD and Agnes Scott College, and held roles in curation and academia in New York and Washington D.C. Her academic journey includes a Ph.D. from Columbia University, alongside advanced degrees from the University of Kansas and Oberlin College.
Her research focuses on Chinese art history, particularly textiles, Ming Dynasty artistic practices, and the role of women in traditional art. Notable works include studies on Zhu Kerou’s tapestry paintings and Ming-era weaving techniques. She has received multiple fellowships, including the Art History Department Dissertation Fellowship (2006–07) and the Louise Wallach Hackney Fellowship (2004–05).
Tunstall’s scholarly contributions span journal articles, encyclopedia entries, and conference presentations. She is affiliated with organizations like the College Art Association and the Southeast College Art Conference. Her curatorial experience includes internships at the Freer/Sackler Galleries and roles in art management.
