Richard K. Kent is a Professor at Franklin & Marshall College, specializing in Asian art history, Chinese lyric poetry, and the history of Western photography. He received his B.A. in English from Oberlin College and M.A./Ph.D. in Chinese art and archaeology from Princeton University.

Kent's research focuses on medieval Chinese painting history (particularly Buddhist lohans from Song-Ming dynasties) and early 20th-century Chinese photography. He also explores contemporary photography in both Chinese and American contexts.
His scholarly work has been supported by significant grants from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Louise M. Hackney Fellowship for Chinese Painting Studies, the Metropolitan Center for Far Eastern Art Studies (Kyoto), and Franklin & Marshall College's Hackman Summer Research program.
