Alexandra Fraser is an Assistant Instructional Professor in the Department of Art History at the University of Chicago, affiliated with the Master of Arts Program in the Humanities (MAPH) within The College. Her research focuses on art, architecture, and decoration of the long nineteenth century, particularly exploring domestic spaces as sites of artistic experimentation and social belonging under global modernity.
She teaches courses on themes like luxury and historical change, interiority and modernity, and migratory aesthetics. Her scholarly work has been published in journals such as West 86th, Design and Culture, and Panorama, as well as edited volumes in France and North America. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan and a BA from the University of British Columbia, and is a MAPH graduate (2009). She is active in Faculty Forward/SEIU Local 73, the contingent faculty union at the University of Chicago.
