Alexander W Sokolovsky is an Assistant Professor of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Licensed Clinical Psychologist at Brown University's School of Public Health. His primary affiliation is with the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences and the Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies. Dr. Sokolovsky holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago (2017) and completed postdoctoral training at Brown's Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies.
His research focuses on substance use etiology, poly-substance co-use (especially tobacco/cannabis/alcohol interactions), and the application of ecological momentary assessment (EMA) methods. Key areas include developing harm reduction strategies for e-cigarette use in asthma patients, understanding cannabis-depression-sleep relationships, and evaluating interventions targeting addictive behaviors.
Current funded projects include NIH-supported studies on e-cigarette cross-conditioning effects (NIDA K08) and cannabis driving impairment (NIDA R01). His work bridges clinical psychology, public health, and implementation science with a focus on translating research into real-world interventions.
Notable collaborations include work with Professors Kristina Jackson, Jennifer Tidey, and Jasjit Ahluwalia. His Tobacco Harm Reduction and Use Lab emphasizes innovative methodologies to address complex substance use patterns and their societal impacts.
