Alexander Martin is a Professor of History and Concurrent Professor in the Department of German and Russian at the University of Notre Dame. He serves as Director of Graduate Studies. His research focuses on the social and intellectual history of imperial Russia, Germany, and Western Europe from the mid-18th to mid-19th century.
Education: Ph.D., University of Pennsylvania.
Research Interests:
Explores Russia's relationship with Europe during the Enlightenment era, urban transformation in Moscow, and microhistories of transnational figures like J.A. Rosenstrauch. Current projects include translating Grigory Vinsky's autobiography (due 2025).
