Andre Kehn is a Professor and Department Chair of Psychology at the University of North Dakota, where he has served since 2010. His research focuses on social and cognitive psychological processes relevant to legal decision-making, including eyewitness memory, juror decision-making, and perception of witnesses. He founded the Applied Social Cognition Laboratory (ASCL) at UND and actively recruits graduate students for research in these areas.
- Education: Ph.D. and M.S. in Experimental Psychology with a concentration in Psychology and Law from the University of Wyoming (2010, 2007); B.S. in Psychology and Business Administration from Mount Olive College (2004).
Research interests include:
- Application of cognitive and social theories to legal contexts
- Cross-race effect and false memory in eyewitness identification
- Emotion's role in juror memory and sentencing
- Perceived veracity of child and alibi witnesses
- Race and gender-based discrimination in legal settings
Scientific contributions span studies on hate crimes, capital trials, false memories, and juror perceptions. Key collaborations include the Psychology and Law Squad (PALS) with Drs. Kimberly Schweitzer and Cassandra Flick, focusing on ongoing research and institutional reform.
Andre mentors graduate students in UND's Experimental Ph.D. program and Forensic Masters program, including Mary Cops, Lauren Stornelli, and Madison Adrian. The ASCL lab is located in the basement of Columbia Hall at UND, with active research on legal psychology topics.
