Dr. Alexander MacKenzie is an academic in the Department of Politics, focusing on the European Union's role in counter-terrorism, UK-EU security dynamics post-Brexit, and far-right extremism. Since joining in 2014, he has contributed extensively to research and teaching in these areas.
- Current Role: Lecturer and Module Co-ordinator for courses like Security in a Globalised World and Political Science Dissertation.
- Education: PhD in European Studies from the University of Salford (2012).
Research Interests: His work explores the EU's global counter-terrorism frameworks, the implications of Brexit on judicial cooperation, and the rise of far-right violence, particularly in the context of Ukraine. He co-authored a 2022 book on EU counter-terrorism strategies and has published in leading journals such as European Security and Journal of European Integration.
Teaching: MacKenzie co-ordinates modules on international relations and political violence, including Foundations in International Relations and From the IRA to ISIS.
