Alexander Ljungqvist is the inaugural holder of the Stefan Persson Family Chair in Entrepreneurial Finance at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE). Prior to SSE, he held prestigious roles at NYU, Harvard, London Business School, and others. He serves as a Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), co-founder of the Nordic Initiative for Corporate Economics (NICE), and former Research Associate at NBER. His research spans corporate finance, governance, taxation, private equity, venture capital, and innovation. He has published in top journals like Journal of Finance and Review of Financial Studies, and received major grants including an ERC Advanced Grant (2024-2029). He is also a Wallenberg Scholar (2019, 2024) and Kauffman Prize Medalist (2011).
Education: MSc from Lund University and MA/MPhil/DPhil from Nuffield College, Oxford University. Teaching includes MBA courses on valuation and venture capital, and executive education on financial management. He serves on AP6’s board (Swedish pension fund) and has advised Nasdaq, World Economic Forum, and UK Department for Business.
Research interests focus on corporate finance dynamics, entrepreneurial ecosystems, and the impact of taxation and governance on firm behavior. His work bridges theory and practice, addressing topics like IPO underpricing, venture capital networks, and private equity valuation. He actively contributes to policy discussions on financial innovation and regulatory design.
Awards include multiple teaching recognitions and academic honors. His grant-funded projects explore topics like board diversity’s impact on shareholder value and the macroeconomic influences on startup formation. He collaborates widely with institutions like the Swedish House of Finance and the Research Institute of Industrial Economics (IFN).
