Alexander-Kenneth Nagel

Prof. Dr. Alexander-Kenneth Nagel serves as Professor of Religious Studies with a focus on social science religious research at the Institute of Sociology, University of Göttingen, and acts as spokesperson for the Forum for Interdisciplinary Religious Studies (FiReF). Based at Platz der Göttinger Sieben 3 in Göttingen, he conducts weekly consultation hours requiring StudIP registration.

His research centers on social science analysis of religion, examining migration-driven religious pluralization, organizational dynamics of migrant religious groups, and apocalyptic/end-time ideologies in contemporary societies. He investigates how religious communities form among migrants in rural contexts and the sociological implications of eschatological beliefs.

Recent publications explore sociology's role in teacher training for values education and religious community formation among rural migrants, demonstrating interdisciplinary connections between religious studies, migration sociology, and rural social dynamics.

Prof. Nagel leads a research team including secretariat member Gönül Yildirim; researchers Dr. Mahmud El-Wereny, Dr. Mehmet Kalender, Dr. phil. Laura Haddad, and Dr. Claudia Rammelt; and student assistants Anton Krempel, Lea Sichting, and Viktoria Schmidt. His doctoral supervision includes Patrick Keßler, Michaela Bunnemann, Paul Henning Wolf, Siham Soweidan, Lucie Gott, Arnela Balic, Eduardo Chemin, Nelly Schubert, and Thorsten Wettich.
