Mathias Bähr

Mathias Bähr directs the Department of Neurology at University Medical Center Göttingen, Germany. His research program investigates cellular and molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration in Parkinson's disease, utilizing translational approaches spanning molecular models to clinical biomarker studies.

Bähr's laboratory employs induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) models, viral vector gene delivery systems, and multimodal biomarker discovery to examine alpha-synuclein pathology and dopaminergic neuron vulnerability. Current investigations focus on molecular pathways linking protein aggregation to neuronal dysfunction and diagnostic applications of tear fluid biomarkers.
