Dr Alexander Hensby is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Kent, co-director of the School of Social Sciences’ Research & Innovation and the Centre for the Study of Social and Political Movements. He holds a PhD from the University of Edinburgh and previously taught at the University of Cambridge and Roehampton University. His research focuses on social movements, identity, and social justice, with recent work addressing race and equity in higher education.
Education: B.A. in Sociology (University of York), MPhil (University of Cambridge), PhD (University of Edinburgh).

Grants & Roles: Research lead for Kent’s Student Success Team (2014–2022), British Academy-funded project on identity politics in France/UK, and co-authoring Introducing Social Theory (Polity Press, 2026).
