Dr. Alexander Georgiev is a Senior Lecturer in Primatology and College Director of Postgraduate Research Studies at Bangor University's School of Environmental & Natural Sciences. His research focuses on primate behavioral ecology, physiology, and conservation, particularly the endangered Zanzibar red colobus. He leads the Zanzibar Red Colobus Project, studying how anthropogenic changes affect primate behavior and reproduction.
Education: PhD in Human Evolutionary Biology from Harvard University (2012), BSc in Biology from Sofia University (2005).
Research interests include primate reproductive ecology, human-wildlife interactions, and conservation strategies. Key projects involve analyzing habitat disturbance impacts, vehicle collision threats, and oxidative stress in wild animals. He teaches modules like Introduction to Primatology and organizes field courses.
Recent articles explore topics such as primate gut microbiome evolution, road ecology challenges for endangered species, and physiological trade-offs in primates. His work bridges ecological and anthropological perspectives to address conservation challenges.
Grants include funding for studying oxidative stress in Zanzibar red colobus (2017-2019) and human disturbance impacts on wildlife (2020-2022). He collaborates internationally on projects like the Cebu Longitudinal Health Survey and Bonobo malaria studies.
