Alex Saum-Pascual is an Associate Professor of Contemporary Spanish Literature and New Media at UC Berkeley, co-directing the Spanish Studies Program. Her work bridges digital humanities, electronic literature, and materialist theory, examining the intersection of technology and cultural production. She holds affiliations with the Berkeley Center for New Media, the Arts Research Center’s Poetry and the Senses initiative, and the Electronic Literature Organization.
Her research focuses on digital materiality, environmental crisis in literature, and posthumanist critiques of capitalism’s infrastructures. Key works include #Postweb! Crear con la máquina y en la Red (2018) and the forthcoming Earthy Algorithms (2025), which argues digital tech radicalizes Cartesian dualism while proposing eco-conscious alternatives. She edits the Electronic Literature series at Bloomsbury Academic Press.
