Professor Alex Nicholson holds the position of Professor of Legal Education and Director of Student Education at the University of Leeds' School of Law. He leads strategic educational initiatives to establish the School as a global leader in innovative legal education. Previously, he was Deputy Head of Law at Sheffield Hallam University, where he developed a transformative legal education model integrating on-campus legal clinics. With a background as a solicitor at DLA Piper specializing in commercial dispute resolution, he bridges practice and academia.
His research focuses on legal education's relationship with the profession, legal strategy, and law's intersection with technology. He employs doctrinal, socio-legal, and empirical methods, particularly using customer value theory to analyze legal and educational outcomes.
Education includes an Executive MBA (Distinction), PhD in Legal Education, LLB (1st class), and PGDip in Legal Practice. Professional memberships include the Law Society (non-practising), Society of Legal Scholars, and Association of Law Teachers. He teaches contract law and torts, supervising students in legal education, law and technology, and private obligations.
