Guevara Leacock is a Lecturer in Law and Academic Advice Coordinator at the University of Kent’s Kent Law School. He holds an LLB (Hons), PgDip Bar Professional Studies (BPTC), and an LLM in corporate and insolvency law. A graduate of Kent Law School, he has been actively involved in its community, serving as President of the Kent Student Law Society, a student mentor, and a teaching committee representative. He was awarded the Antony London Prize for outstanding contribution upon graduation.
His legal practice includes criminal defense for individuals and corporations, particularly in fraud, bribery, and Proceeds of Crime Act cases. Notably, he contributed to a high-profile case involving a FTSE 100 company prosecuted by the SFO. He also specializes in private law areas like divorce, inheritance, and cybersecurity/data privacy, with a focus on post-Brexit GDPR implications.
Research interests span corporate criminal liability, corporate governance, testamentary capacity, inheritance property disputes, hearsay evidence, and cybersecurity. He teaches modules on criminal law, succession planning, and legal foundations at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including convening LAWS9004. Professional memberships include the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, the Eastern Caribbean Bar, and the Young Fraud Lawyers Association.
Leacock is a practising Barrister in England & Wales and Solicitor in the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court. Beyond academia, he engages in cycling, weightlifting, and baking.
