Liron Shmilovits is a Fellow and College Assistant Professor at Wolfson College, University of Cambridge. He serves as Director of Studies in Law and teaches undergraduate courses in Contract, Tort, Legal History, and Intellectual Property.
Research Focus: His work centers on private law, particularly contract law, tort law, and legal fictions. Key contributions include proposing an acceptance test for legal fictions and analyzing the declaratory fiction of judge-made law, the illegality defense in tort, and no-oral-modification clauses in contracts.
Publications: Recent works include the book Legal Fictions in Private Law (2022) and articles in Legal Studies, Kansas Law Journal, and Legal Theory. Forthcoming chapters in the Elgar Encyclopedia of Maritime and Oceans Law address topics like duress and waiver.
Education & Practice: He holds a PhD and LLM from the University of Cambridge, alongside an LLB and BCom from the University of New South Wales. He is admitted as a non-practising solicitor in New South Wales and Australia.
