Alex Mills is a Professor of Public and Private International Law at University College London (UCL), Faculty of Laws. He previously held positions at the University of Cambridge as a Fellow, College Lecturer at Selwyn College, and Affiliated Lecturer at the Faculty of Law. His academic journey includes undergraduate degrees in Philosophy and Law (both first-class honours) from the University of Sydney, followed by an LLM (first-class) and a PhD (awarded the Yorke Prize) from the University of Cambridge.
His research focuses on Conflict of Laws, Public and Private International Law, International Arbitration, and Legal Theory. He is a specialist editor of Dicey, Morris and Collins on the Conflict of Laws and General Editor of the International and Comparative Law Quarterly. His work bridges public and private international law, exploring themes like legal pluralism, jurisdictional frameworks, and sustainable development goals (particularly SDG 13 and 16).
Awards include the Yorke Prize for his PhD. He actively contributes to legal practice through consultancy, expert witness work, and participation in international conferences. His recent publications address modern challenges such as cross-border litigation, arbitration reforms, and the role of private international law in globalization.
