Alex Waghorn

Alex Waghorn is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Law at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), joining in 2022. His expertise spans private law, with a focus on property, tort, and restitution. He holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge, where his thesis on English property law foundations earned the Yorke Prize. His 2021 article in the Modern Law Review won the Wedderburn Prize. Current research includes tort remedies, bailment, and private law theory methodology.

Before LSE, he was a Fellow of Selwyn College, Cambridge, and studied Law at Cambridge (BA, PhD) and the University of Oxford (BCL). His teaching includes modules such as LL275 Property II and general private law. His research explores doctrinal and normative questions in private law, emphasizing intersections between property and tort, legal methodology, and historical foundations.

Key Projects: Ongoing work addresses remedies in tort, the nature of bailment, and expressive theories of legal possession. Recent publications (2024) include analyses of Supreme Court remoteness doctrines and property-tort borderlines.
