Rory Gregson is an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Oxford's Faculty of Law and a Fellow and Tutor in Law at Merton College. His research focuses on the interrelations between core private law subjects, including contract, tort, land, trusts, and remedies. His work has influenced judicial rulings, with the Court of Appeal citing his scholarship. Gregson teaches undergraduate Contract and Land Law, as well as Commercial Remedies on the BCL program.
Education: Graduated top of his year with a Starred First from the University of Cambridge (Law), followed by a BCL, MPhil, and DPhil at the University of Oxford. His doctoral thesis on subrogation earned him a Prize Junior Research Fellowship at Trinity College, Cambridge. Previously, he held a University Assistant Professorship in Private Law at Cambridge and was a Trinity College Fellow.
Research emphasizes doctrinal cohesion across private law, particularly subrogation, unjust enrichment, and property law interfaces. His recent publications include Subrogation and Marshalling (2024) and articles analyzing knowing receipt in tort and property remedies.
