Alex J. Bowers is a Professor of Education Leadership at Teachers College, Columbia University, where he focuses on data-driven decision making in education. He holds affiliations with the Data Science Institute (DSI) and leads initiatives like the Education Leadership Data Analytics (ELDA) research group. His expertise spans school leadership, data equity, and the application of data science to educational challenges.
He earned his Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Michigan State University and previously worked in biotechnology research. His research is funded by NSF, Wallace Foundation, and others, addressing topics like early warning systems for student retention and equitable data practices. Key awards include the AERA Emerging Scholar Award (2012) and UCEA Culbertson Award (2012).
Recent work includes a $1.5M Wallace Foundation grant for the CALL-MEI project, advancing equity-focused data indicators.
