Stephen J. Aguilar

Stephen J. Aguilar is an Associate Professor at the Rossier School of Education, University of Southern California. He holds a PhD in Education and Psychology from the University of Michigan and focuses on educational technology, learning analytics, and motivation research. His work bridges big data and social justice in education.

Dr. Aguilar investigates generative AI applications, digital equity gaps, and data-driven education. His research explores how learning analytics can personalize education while addressing systemic inequities. Current projects include co-leading USC’s Center for Generative AI and Society and authoring Authenticating Intelligence: Preventing AI from Hijacking Education.

His publications span educational technology, data ethics, and STEM equity. Recent work examines social media adaptation during the pandemic, feedback mechanisms, and K-12 broadband access. He has secured major grants from the National Science Foundation and AERA.
