Alessandro Vitale is an Associate Professor of Plant Pathology at the Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment (Di3A) of the University of Catania, Italy. His academic career spans over a decade, with roles ranging from Research Fellow to teaching positions in plant pathology disciplines. He is currently an active member of the Department Ethics Committee (since 2025) and serves as the Delegate responsible for Orientation at Di3A.
- Education: PhD in Phytosanitary Technologies (University of Catania, 2004)
Dr. Vitale's research focuses on fungal pathogens affecting commercial crops, emphasizing diagnosis of emerging/novel diseases, soilborne pathogens, and integrated disease management strategies combining biological, agronomic, chemical, and physical methods. His work addresses fungicide resistance management, post-harvest disease control in citrus and grapevine, and applications of induced systemic resistance and transgenic plants.
Teaching activities include courses on "Plant Mycology", "Phytopathogenic Fungi and Mycotoxins", and "Phytoiatry (Plant Protection)" at both bachelor's and master's degree levels since 2015/2016.
