Aleksandra Boikova is a Novo Nordisk Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Oxford, affiliated with the Monaco Group. Her work focuses on targeting lipid-associated macrophage transitions in atherosclerosis and exploring therapeutic strategies for cardiovascular diseases. She investigates mechanisms linking carotid artery stenosis to cerebrovascular events using scRNAseq, CRISPR screening, and murine models under the supervision of Prof. Monaco and colleagues.
She completed her PhD at the University of Cambridge, studying Myc-driven cardiomyocyte cell cycle re-entry for cardiac regeneration. Her research integrates snRNAseq atlases, iPSC-derived models, and functional rodent studies to develop novel mRNA-based therapeutics for myocardial infarction in collaboration with AstraZeneca.
Her research interests span transcriptional regulation in cell fate decisions, cardiovascular pathophysiology, and translational therapies. Methodologically, she combines bioinformatics, stem cell models, and preclinical studies to advance therapeutic modalities.
