معرفی
Alejandro Lomniczi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at Dalhousie University's Faculty of Medicine. His primary affiliation is with the Department of Physiology and Biophysics within the Faculty of Medicine. His research focuses on the neuroendocrine mechanisms governing puberty and aging, particularly the epigenetic regulation of gene expression in response to environmental and metabolic factors. He holds a BSc, MSc, and PhD from the University of Buenos Aires, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Oregon Health and Science University.
Key research interests include reproductive neuroendocrinology, pubertal development, epigenetic control of gene expression, and the impact of endocrine disruptors on brain and reproductive health. He investigates how dietary changes, stress, and environmental toxins alter the epigenetic landscape of neurons and glial cells during development and aging.
Current training opportunities: His laboratory accepts graduate and honours students for Fall 2023–Winter 2024 and Summer 2024. He emphasizes recruiting students with research experience in molecular biology, genetics, or neuroendocrinology.
Lab focus: Studies involve systems biology approaches, animal models (rats and nonhuman primates), and epigenetic profiling to uncover mechanisms linking metabolism, environment, and pubertal timing. Collaborations include work on Alzheimer's disease pathogenesis in rhesus macaques and the neurobiology of alcohol use disorder.
Awards: No specific honors listed, though his work on puberty timing and endocrine disruptors has been widely cited in high-impact journals like Nature, Nature Communications, and Lancet Diabetes Endocrinology.
