Dr. Albert Poater is an Associate Professor at the University of Girona (UdG), affiliated with the Institute of Computational Chemistry and Catalysis (IQCC) within the Faculty of Sciences. He holds a Chemistry degree from UdG (2001) and a computational chemistry PhD supervised by Miquel Duran and Miquel Solà. His postdoctoral research included positions at the University of Salerno (Italy) and King Abdulaziz University (Saudi Arabia) under Prof. Luigi Cavallo. Since 2012, he has led independent research as a Ramón y Cajal researcher at IQCC. With over 120 publications (H-index 30, ~2,700 citations) and €1 million in funding, his work focuses on computational catalysis, CO₂ fixation, water oxidation, and predictive drug design.
Research interests span computational organometallic catalysis, bioinorganic mechanisms, and societal challenges like CO₂ reduction. Collaborations include Prof. S.P. Nolan (CO₂ catalysis), Prof. G.W. Coates (olefin metathesis), and Prof. A. Llobet (water oxidation). His lab develops tools like the vBur index for ligand steric analysis and web applications for catalyst optimization.
Awards include the Ramón y Cajal Fellowship and European Marie Curie Integration Grant (CIG). He advises numerous PhD, Master’s, and Bachelor students and participates in grant evaluations for ANEP and international agencies. IQCC, his host institution, is a global leader in computational catalysis, emphasizing predictive chemistry for industrial and environmental applications.
