Dr Alasdair Marshall is an Associate Professor in Risk Management at the Southampton Business School, University of Southampton. He holds an MA (Hons) and PhD in Social Science from the University of Glasgow. Before joining Southampton in 2008, he worked at Glasgow Caledonian University, contributing to risk management education and research in the Cullen Centre for Risk and Governance.
His research focuses on corporate risk management, risk intelligence, and risk culture. Current projects include exploring the future of the risk management profession and interdisciplinary studies on risk psychology, sociology, and national security. He is actively supervising PhD student Thomas Phipps in Business Studies & Management. Dr Marshall also investigates risk in contexts like regulation, business ethics, crisis management, and project management.
Teaching since 2008 has included introductory corporate risk management courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He is affiliated with the Centre for Risk Research, CORMSIS (Centre for Operational Research, Management Science, and Information Systems), and the Centre for Democratic Futures. His recent publications span risk prioritization in infrastructure projects, cultural intelligence in elite institutions, and cost modeling in container shipping.
