Alan S Kliger is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. He previously served as Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs and Chief Quality Officer at Yale New Haven Health System, and held leadership roles including Chairman of the Department of Medicine and Chief Medical Officer at the Hospital of St. Raphael. He currently chairs the American Society of Nephrology's Excellence in Patient Care Advisory Committee.
Education: MD from SUNY Upstate Medical Center (1970), BS from City College of New York (1966). Board-certified in Nephrology (1976) and Internal Medicine (1973).
Research focuses on chronic kidney disease, dialysis modalities, quality improvement, and patient safety. Over 190 peer-reviewed publications emphasize hemodialysis outcomes, quality metrics, and pandemic-related kidney care challenges. Leadership roles include chairing NIH/NIDDK's Hemodialysis Novel Therapies consortium and serving on National Quality Forum's Renal Standing Committee.
Awards include the American Association of Kidney Patients' Jenny Kitsen Patient Safety Award (2022), National Kidney Foundation's J. Michael Lazarus Distinguished Service Award (2018), and the Maureen Lundin aakpRENALLIFE Award (2004).
