Alan Perelson serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of New Mexico and is a Member of the UNM Department of Biology's CETI Program. He additionally holds positions as a Member of the Science Board and head of the Theoretical Immunology Program at the Santa Fe Institute.
His educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Biophysics from the University of California at Berkeley (1972)
Dr. Perelson specializes in mathematical and theoretical biology with concentrated research in immunology, virology, and cellular/molecular systems. His work applies rigorous mathematical modeling to decipher complex immune responses, viral dynamics, and molecular interactions, establishing foundational frameworks for understanding biological processes through quantitative analysis.
Leading the Theoretical Immunology Program at the Santa Fe Institute, he fosters interdisciplinary collaboration between mathematicians, physicists, and biologists to advance theoretical approaches in immunological research. His institutional affiliations bridge the University of New Mexico's biological sciences with the Santa Fe Institute's complex systems research environment.
