Robert D. Miller is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of New Mexico (UNM). He serves as Director of the Biology Molecular Biology Facility and the Center for Evolutionary and Theoretical Immunology (CETI). His research focuses on comparative immunology, evolution of antigen receptor genes, and maternal/fetal immunity in vertebrates, particularly in non-eutherian mammals like opossums and monotremes.
Education:
- B.S. Microbiology, Pennsylvania State University
- Ph.D. Medical Microbiology, Thomas Jefferson University
Research Interests:
- Evolution of novel T cell receptors
- Genetic basis of immune system adaptations in squamates, marsupials, and monotremes
- Maternal-fetal immune interactions and lactation
- Regenerative processes in neonatal spinal cord injury
Key Projects:
- Evolution of non-classical MHC genes
- Role of γμ T cells in non-eutherian mammals
- Comparative genomics of immune loci in reptiles and mammals
Labs & Facilities: Directs the Biology Molecular Biology Facility and CETI, advancing cutting-edge studies in immunology and evolutionary biology.
