Alan Hook is a Senior Lecturer in Interactive Media at Ulster University’s School of Communication and Media, and Associate Head of School. He is based at the Coleraine campus and leads research in new media, play, and immersive technologies.

- Co-Investigator on UKRI-funded Museums, Crisis and Covid-19 project
His research explores games and virtual environments as tools to address ‘wicked problems’ like climate change and civic responsibility. He investigates transmedia narratives, alternate reality games, and speculative methods to foster interspecies empathy through projects like Equine Eyes (a horse-vision headset) and design toolkits for interspecies thinking.
Recent publications focus on digital arts, post-conflict urbanism, and speculative methodologies. Awards include the Senior Distinguished Education Excellence Fellowship (2022) and recognition for educational technology innovation (2018).
